Cole & Son wallpaper at The Espy

Melbourne’s iconic and beloved Esplanade Hotel, better known as The Espy, reopened in November 2018, having undergone an extensive renovation by Technē Architecture + Interior Design.

Working closely with The Espy owners, Sand Hill Road (Waterside Hotel, Garden State, Prahan Hotel), the renowned studio revived the beautiful St Kilda venue with an emphasis on music and performance spaces.

Inside the 3000-square-metre venue sits 12 bars, three band stages and two restaurants, with every inch of the characterful building designed down to the finest detail.

Since being built in 1878, the Victorian-era Espy functioned as a seaside resort and hotel, becoming an influential establishment for jazz ballroom and rock and roll throughout the ‘90s and until it closed for renovation in 2015.

Today, The Espy is booming with personality and style, nowhere more so than within the Myer Tiger restaurant, where Cole & Son’s Palm Jungle wallpaper brings the bar area to life.

The brand’s iconic design is a natural fit for the ‘fast-paced, flavour-filled Cantonese restaurant serving up inspired cocktails, dumplings, Peking Duck and epic sunsets.’

Radford Melbourne Commercial Manager, Melissa McCulloch, says, “We are so thrilled to be involved in such an iconic building renovation. There can often be some hesitation in using wallpaper in a high traffic hospitality situation, but we know Cole & Son wallpaper is tried and tested in hotels, bars and restaurants all around the world and it will stand the test of time. There are some ways to increase the durability of a wallpaper, which the designers at Technē Architecture and Interior Design adopted."

Cole & Son Palm Jungle is available in soft Stone and Taupe, punchy Petrol and Lime, classic Forest Green, and the fittingly '50s-esque Seafoam.
